INSTALLING A STAIR RUNNER

I LOVE stair runners! Since I currently live in a one-story rental house, I took the opportunity to install a stair runner in our fixer upper flip house.

Let me first say this, yes, you can do this! I successfully installed the stair runner by myself and it was easier than I expected. Every time I mentioned that I was going to install the stair runner – to my general contractor, the carpet rep, hardwood flooring rep, my family, etc. – I was met with the same quizzical look and response, “Really?” Yes, really. Here’s how:

Follow these step-by-step instructions on Annie Selke’s site: How to Install a Stair Runner. After you measure as instructed, purchase the rug pads and stair runner(s) for your space. I used two 2.5” x 12” runners. Rent a pneumatic staple gun at Home Depot. It was a bit intimidating at first, but it’s the easiest tool to use. Start at the top and work your way down to the last stair.

You’ll be amazed at how quickly it goes and how awesome it looks when completed. Now, go for it. You can do this!
